Australasian Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion

CROSS ACCREDITATION

The President of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusionists, Ms Mary Winkler, invited the Chairman of the Australasian Board to a meeting in San Diego, on the 13th February 1993. The purpose of the meeting was to provide an International forum for recognised perfusion certifying agencies and perfusion educational accreditation agencies to establish a dialogue. Representatives from the Boards of Canada, Europe, USA and Australasia were invited. While there was active dialogue at this meeting, and exchanges of information about the various boards, their educational prerequisites, accreditation etc. at the end of the day, there was no suggestion of cross accreditation, or reciprocity by any of the perfusion boards.

The Australasian Board is duty bound to preserve the set standards of the Certification process. This means that it can only initiate dialogue in terms of cross accreditation with like perfusion boards which have equal standards relating to prerequisites, duration of course and content.
